How do you prepare for your work, do you do a lot of research?

I like using real events, real place and real people (albeit fictionalized mash-ups of real people) to tell my stories. Fair Play includes in it several real life events, the Casey Anthony case, other legal injustices that have happened both in Florida and nationwide. The research I did on Fair Play, mostly in the realm of legal and law related matters pales in comparison to the close to three years of research I did for The Perfect Day. I learned of the connection of the massacre in Beslan to Islamic extremists, I learned of the existence of Novachuk or the 'Newcomer' nerve gas. It is more than ten times more potent than Sarin gas and is wholly undetectable by conventional methods. I learned of the Chinese drone hacking program that our government knows about and yet does nothing to stop. For the sequel to The Perfect Day, I take on the topic that few people want to hear about and that is human trafficking. Sex slavery that is a hundreds of billions of dollars a year business. And unfortunately, it is right in our backyard.
