January 20 , 2022 Dear Friends ,
I want to offer my congratulations to everyone who worked so hard to complete the India Basin Equitable Development Plan . Your commitment of time and dedication to this valued effort will undoubtedly help to ensure and inform the construction of this world class waterfront park that is being built for the existing community while preserving the culture and identity of Bayview- Hunters Point . Thank you to the Bayview-Hunters Point Community , the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department , A . Philip Randolph Institute , Inc ., and the Trust for Public Land for your collaboration .
As the District Supervisor , I am excited to support the India Basin Waterfront Park project because it provides an important partnership opportunity between the government and the community to work collaboratively to address social , economic and environmental injustices that have plagued this historically underserved and neglected neighborhood . This plan and project create a path for equitable economic growth and development , benefitting existing residents of neighborhoods long excluded from the City ’ s economic progress .
The community-oriented , Equitable Development plan outlines a series of commitments to be honored by the project team , and the aforementioned partner agencies and organizations . Developed by a Leadership Committee comprised of more than 20 Bayview-Hunters Point community members the plan identified six important areas of focus on this project : Arts , Culture and Identity ; Workforce and Business Development ; Transportation , Access and Connectivity ; Healthy Communities and Ecology ; Youth Opportunities ; and Housing Security to achieve their goal .
The completion of the Equitable Development Plan marks a critical juncture in this park project . I look forward to the incredible opportunities for the community and our city .
Sincerely ,
Shamann Walton , President of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors District 10 Supervisor
