A MESSAGE FROM THE PROJECT PARTNERS
The India Basin Waterfront Park Project partners wish to express our sincerest gratitude to the Equitable Development Leadership Committee , the Bayview-Hunters Point Community , the Equitable Development Working Group and our San Francisco State University advisors on the completion of this Equitable Development Plan ( EDP ). This document is the culmination of nearly two years of a community-driven process to preserve the rich culture , identity , and pride within Bayview-Hunters Point to ensure that the multi-milliondollar investment to transform the India Basin shoreline uplifts the community beyond its park boundaries .
In 2019 , the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department ( RPD ) and project partners the A . Philip Randolph Institute San Francisco ( APRI ), the San Francisco Parks Alliance ( SFPA ) and the Trust for Public Land ( TPL ) initiated an Equitable Development planning process in partnership with an EDP Leadership Committee . This caring and thoughtful working group is comprised of more than 20 prominent community members and leaders , representing a diverse set of park stakeholders and partner organizations . This community driven process resulted in this plan – a trail map which sets forth a series of commitments woven into the planning , construction , programming , and operations of the park to advance placemaking and to help strengthen equity and community resiliency around the Park .
The EDP outlines goals and strategies designed by the Leadership Committee and the existing Bayview-Hunters Point community to actively work to prevent displacement of the Black community living and working in Bayview-Hunters Point . We hope to support this effort by acknowledging historic and systemic environmental injustices within Bayview-Hunters Point ; by providing sustained resources that support and guide ongoing
