Be in the moment and enjoy it more instead of worrying about what comes next. Have more faith in where the journey is taking you.
HOW HAS SUCCESS CHANGED FOR YOU?
I have learned to appreciate the smaller things more. Success doesn’ t need to always be massive or publicly praised. Sometimes it can be deeply personal.
EARLIER ON, DID YOU FEEL PRESSURE TO FIT A CERTAIN MOULD?
Not at all. I never felt the need to conform. I reclaim my narrative by living and expressing myself truthfully, and by marching to the beat of my own drum, which is not always easy.
WHAT DOES PROTECTING YOUR PEACE LOOK LIKE IN THIS SEASON?
A lot of prayer and breaks. I’ m the queen of taking breaks!
HOW HAS YOUR ARTISTRY EVOLVED SINCE YOUR BREAKOUT?
I learn something new every time I drop music. The lessons never stop. I’ d say I’ ve grown in small technical ways, especially when it comes to delivery and audio quality. That is what I’ m most proud of.
WHAT DRAWS YOU TO EXPLORING DIFFERENT GENRES?
It depends on what we are listening to while we are working, or what the producers are inspired by at the time. All those influences come together to make something special and intentional.
IS THERE A GENRE YOU’ RE STILL CURIOUS TO EXPLORE?
I would definitely love to tap into jazz or praise and worship, but that’ s where I might mature to later in life.
WHO WOULD BE YOUR DREAM COLLABORATION?
Bucie, SZA, and Drake.
WHAT SHOULD THIS ERA REPRESENT IN YOUR STORY?
I would love this era of my career to represent my love for making music, and my love for all kinds of genres. I would love for people to feel like whatever kind of music they’ re obsessed with, there’ s a version of me they can hear in it. IB
