MOVE
BY BYRON LUKAS
This summer, forget chasing a“ perfect” body. The better goal is to build a body that feels strong, capable, and ready for life.
Every year, as October rolls around and summer gets closer, the pressure starts. Lose the tummy. Drop a few kilos. Get toned. Start running. Join the gym. Suddenly, your body becomes a project that apparently needs fixing before you can enjoy the season.
But what if we stopped treating our bodies like“ before” pictures?
Fitness does not have to be about punishment, restriction, or trying to look like somebody else. It can be about having more energy, climbing a mountain without gasping for air, carrying your shopping without struggling, playing with your kids, running for a bus or simply feeling comfortable in your own skin.
Here’ s how to shift your mindset and build a healthier relationship with exercise.

CHANGE THE GOAL
Instead of saying,“ I need to lose weight,” try setting a goal based on what you want your body to do.
Run 5km. Complete a hike. Get stronger. Improve your flexibility. Walk more. Whatever motivates you, make the goal about ability rather than appearance.
