Woodland Hills students in 4th through 8th grades competed in the
2016 Allegheny County K’Nex STEM Design Competition on April 6,
2016. This year’s challenge was to design a building that was at least
a meter tall, capable of holding weight, and environmentally friendly.
We are proud to announce that they took top honors in the challenge
for the sixth consecutive year. The Woodland Hills Academy received
five of the ten awards given at the competition, which included over
100 schools from Allegheny County. The Academy teams finished
first, second, and third in the 4th–5th grade division. In the 6th–8th
grade division, two Academy teams received Honorable Mention
Awards. They created environmental schools, community centers,
science centers, endangered species rehabilitation centers, and water
treatment facilities. The first-place team in the 4th–5th grade division
will represent Allegheny County at the state championships on
May 13, 2016. Congratulations to all of our students who competed
for their phenomenal performance and for proudly representing
