Woodland Hills School District
Comcast Cares Day
BY MICHELLE SPERDUTO AND BETH WAGNER
O
n a beautiful Saturday morning in April, Comcast employees
hosted a day to bring our Memorial Garden back to a peaceful
reflection space that everyone wanted it to be. This was
a part of Comcast Cares Day 2018 that reaches across the
country and around the world joining people together to make change
happen.
Wilkins staff and families, along with other district volunteers, helped
make the garden area beautiful, donating their time and skills.
There were children’s activities in the cafeteria with volunteers
helping them decorate stones for the garden. The students were taught
how to start a garden for healthy eating and cooking nutritiously. They
also planted trees and learned about the importance of trees to the
environment. The children learned valuable lessons and hopefully will
continue to volunteer in their communities because of this wonderful
experience.
Wilkins PTO supplied all the hard workers with donuts and coffee for
breakfast.
Comcast provided lunch and a t-shirt for everyone that volunteered!
It was a great showing of support and time.
The Music Technology Keyboard Final
BY BRIAN HOPKINS
T
he Music Technology Course is very excited to announce that the MIDI
(Music Instrument Digital Interface)
Keyboards have arrived. The class
received a grant from the Woodland Hills
Foundation that gave them the ability to
purchase piano keyboards that can be used
to write and create digital music. The Music
Technology Course, created this year by Mr.
Brian Hopkins, provides students in grades
9-12 who have never played an instrument
the chance to learn how to read and write
digital music. In addition to composition,
students learn the basics of producing and
editing music.
