in the class provides participants with a two-year certification that follows the most current American Heart Association educational guidelines .
SEREMS are also able to provide First Aid and group classes on an individual request basis .
In addition to classes , they provide education on the role of EMS in the community – such as they did this past summer for the attendees of the Borough ’ s Summer Recreation program . They can also be seen at local schools and other institutions hosting “ Touch-A-Truck ” events to give community members an opportunity to interact with their equipment .
In partnership with Rite Aid Pharmacies , SEREMS hosts several Flu Shot Clinics each year for the communities they serve . This year , the flu shot clinic in Jefferson Hills was held on Saturday , October 23 , 2021 . Residents ages three or older were able to participate in the drive-thru Flu Shot Clinic at no cost regardless of insurance . Without leaving their vehicle , residents were able to receive a flu shot to help in protecting them from illness .

TRASH COLLECTION UPDATES
Changes are coming to your trash collection in the Borough for the new year ! The Borough will now be participating in the “ At Your Door – Hazardous Household Waste ( HHW )” collection program through Waste Management . Weekly delivery times for trash and recycling are also changing in 2022 .
At Your Door – Hazardous Household Waste ( HHW ) Program
The Borough of Jefferson Hills Council elected to participate in Waste Management ’ s HHW program during the November , 2021 regular voting meeting . This program will allow for the disposal of certain household hazardous waste “ safely , easily , and responsibly .”
To participate in this program , residents can follow this procedure :
1 . To Participate , you must set up a collection appointment There are three way to set-up a collection appointment : 1 ) Go to www . WM AtYourDoor . com 2 ) Call 1-800-449-7587 between 8:00 a . m . and 8:00 p . m .

Waste Management representatives will guide you toward a safe and successful collection . You will be asked several questions , including your address , the type , and amount of HHW available for pick-up .
After supplying Waste Management the necessary amount of information , residents will be provided a convenient collection date and information about where to place the containment bag for collection . Following the information request , a kit with the containment bag will be mailed to residents ’ homes in plenty of time to gather HHW for pick-up at no extra charge to residents .
2 . Preparing for collection – The collection kit includes an instruction sheet and other items to help pack and secure your household hazardous waste ( HHW ). Please read the instruction sheet included in the kit .
3 . HHW is collected – On the scheduled date , the customer service technician will collect HHW directly from your home . They will sort and pack the HHW for proper transportation , recycling and disposal . Participants will receive a postage-paid survey card to complete and mail back to help track the program .
4 . Does your household have more HHW than will fit into the Kit ?
Remember , this service is available year-round ! All residents must do is schedule another collection ! Representatives are available from 8:00 a . m . - 8:00 p . m . Monday - Friday . Trash Routes Updates Beginning the week of January 3 , 2022 , several streets and neighborhoods throughout the Borough will have trash collected on a different day of the week than they had previously . Additional communication will be distributed the week of December 20 , 2021 regarding these changes . This will impact approximately 430 total residents .
