It’ s hard to overstate the importance of trees. They provide the structure for our homes, the chairs that we like to lounge in, and the mulch that carpets our gardens. It’ s a sustainable crop that’ s harvested every 14 to 16 years. And while it grows, it provides food for animals, habitat for life-supporting bees and more than 800 species of birds, while it fills our world with oxygen.
WEST JEFFERSON HILLS HISTORICAL SOCIETY
West Jefferson Hills Historical Society will hold its Fall Craft Fair on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 10 a. m. to 3 p. m., at the Jefferson Hills Community Room, located at 925 Old Clairton Road.

The Pleasant Hills Arboretum is a loving tribute to the tree, in all its forms. There are more than 70 different species that decorate its 16 acres, making it a living museum of trees. While strolling through the arboretum, you might see a Scarlet Oak, a Sugar Maple, a Wild Crabapple tree, or a Chestnut Oak, in addition to many others. You might also catch a glimpse of one of about 100 species of birds that have been positively identified at the site.
If you would like to become involved in preserving this natural jewel, visit the website at pleasanthillsarboretum. org. You may also want to consider planting a tree as a memorial to a loved one.
