A Letter From
Library Director ,
DANA FARABAUGH
Dear Jefferson Hills Community ,
Summer is typically the busiest season at our library , and even though we are still navigating COVID-19 , this year is no exception . We are thrilled to once again offer a summer reading program for children and added a new Read Around the World challenge for adults , and we brought back our popular free basket raffle that gives anyone who checks out materials from our library this summer a chance to win some great prizes . The Friends of the Jefferson Hills Public Library are also hard at work planning their annual book sale , which will take place from July 16 through July 18 .
Our summer reading program holds special importance this year . Not only does it give children a change to socialize , but research has shown that library summer reading programs help prevent the “ summer slide ,” or learning loss that occurs during the summer months . After a frustrating and challenging school year , many kids face the risk of falling behind their peers in terms of academic achievement . The Library ’ s summer reading program offers fun , high-quality educational experiences that promote a love of literacy and learning that stay with kids throughout their lives and help them succeed in school — all for free .
As we move throughout the summer , we are adding more programs for adults , partnering with the West Jefferson Hills School District to improve services to students , and exploring new ways to serve the Jefferson Hills community . Stop by and let us know how we can help you !
