Dear Gill Hall Students and Families :
You undoubtedly will remember this year for the rest of your life . Your children someday will study it in a textbook or read about how life was changed by the COVID-19 pandemic . What will they say ? What will you remember ?
I know many of us look at all the things we missed this year , and there was a lot . I , however , also think we will remember how it changed us and how much we gained by overcoming this great challenge . We all worked together , we encouraged one another , and we helped those in need . Nearly every historic event has positives and negatives . We must always vow to learn from the bad and cherish the good .
At different times throughout this year , we came together in a virtual setting and learned together , laughed together , ate together , and sometimes even cried together . We met
each other ’ s pets , little brothers , sisters , grandparents , and saw glimpses inside each other ’ s homes . In some ways , we got to know one another better than we ever had before in a “ normal ” year . I was most worried about each of you , the students of Gill Hall Elementary , going into this school year . I should have known better . This year , I saw you adapt to changes daily . I witnessed you bravely live and learn during a pandemic . It definitely wasn ’ t easy for you , but in many ways you handled it better than the rest of us . You showed us ( the adults ) the way , and made change not only possible , but necessary . I am grateful for each one of you and for your teachers , and I know that you will make this world a better place because you are already doing it here , at Gill Hall Elementary and in West Jefferson Hills !
