were unfazed by the constant sounds of chirping . The students learned all about what is needed to maintain a healthy coop , how to tell a hen from a rooster , and what hens need to eat . They have become true “ Chicken EGGsperts ”. Finally in June , the new home for the “ Girls ” arrived , and it is now known as the “ Hen House in the Hills ”. For now , the four egg layers have moved into the larger coop until the new group grows a bit more . Once they become similar in size , they will all find their home in the amazing student-built coop . In just a few months , the egg collection will increase by many .
Mrs . Connelly ’ s plans for the future are already underway . She plans to create a completely student-run club during PLT and have special trash cans in the lunchroom for the students to dispose of their food scraps to feed the chickens . There will also be an online store managed by the students to open in the fall of 2021 . The store will sell fresh eggs and additional merchandise to help supplement the ongoing costs of maintaining the coop and feeding the hens .
Mrs . Connelly would like to personally thank District Administrators and the WJH Foundation for Education for supporting innovative , experiential learning opportunities for the students of WJHSD !
