School Board Earns Tri-State Honor
The WJHSD School Board was selected for one of the Tri-State Area School Study Council ’ s two 2024 D . Richard Wynn Distinguished School Board Awards . The Board was recognized at Tri-State ’ s 75th Annual banquet on March 21 at the University of Pittsburgh .
The 2024 School Board members are : Kimberley Finnerty , President ; Suzanne Downer , First Vice President ; Christopher Zacur , Second Vice President ; Chelsea Campolongo , Dave Dominick , Denise Kahler , Anthony Rash , Adam Rice , and Kristin Shoemaker .
West Jefferson Hills Kindergarten Registration Opens for 2024-25
The official 2024-25 registration process is underway for all soon-to-be Kindergarten students who reside in the West Jefferson Hills School District . Kindergarten students in the district attend either Gill Hall or McClellan Elementary schools . Children must be 5 years of age on or before Sept . 1 , 2024 .
Families who have an existing Skyward account , can log in to their parent / guardian account and click “ New Student Registration ” located on the upper left-hand side of the screen . For parents who do not have an existing Skyward account , please go to www . wjhsd . net to complete this process . There may be some required documents that parents do not have at this moment , but will have when their child gets a little older . Parents are asked to please work through the registration process and submit what they can now .
Parents who have any questions or need help during the registration process are asked to please call WJHSD Administration staff ( 412.655.8450 ) for assistance .

TJ Fall Play Earns Four Prime Stage Theatre Awards
Thomas Jefferson ' s Fall play , “ Trap !” won four Prime Stage Theatre Awards . A great job by all the TJ Drama students in front of and behind the curtain and director Julie Tipton .
Best Lighting Design & Best Creative Technical Effects : Brady Bandik ; Best Sound Design & Direction : Lauren Mutmansky & Jeremy Thompson ; Best Stage Management : Alec Mahathey & Maddie Potts .
Duquesne Women ’ s Hoops Team Boosts JHIS G . O . L . D . Event
The G . O . L . D . event at Jefferson Hills Intermediate School was outstanding ! Approximately 170 JHIS girls participated along with 15 mentors from TJHS and PHMS and WJHSD staff .
The Duquesne University Women ’ s Basketball team participated in the G . O . L . D . event at JHIS for a second consecutive year , as the squad led teamwork activities that involved quick decision-making . The team also signed autographs at the end .
The JHIS students also had sessions on Positive Self Talk , where they decorated journals , and created their own trail mix based on some qualities they feel are important to be a good friend , or want in a friend ( Honest , Helpful , Kind , Polite , Encouraging , Patient ).
It was a great evening ; thanks to WJHSD ' s Dr . Melissa McCauley , Angela Bell , Jessica Short , Jodi Merwin , Erikka Kuhse and Regina Slater for organizing !
MCES Gods and Goddesses Wax Museum
McClellan Elementary School ' s Second grade students wrapped up their Ancient Greek Civilizations unit by creating a 12 Gods and Goddesses Wax Museum . The students dressed up as a God or Goddess and shared who they were with the other MCES students . What a fun learning event !
TJ Spring Musical
Thomas Jefferson High School ’ s Gene Kelly Award-winning theater students were set to perform “ Beauty and the Beast ” for the annual spring musical from March 14-17 . More than 200 TJ students were involved in the cast and crew . Members of the cast and crew visited with the district ’ s K-5 students prior to the performances .
Olivia Virgin played the role of Belle and Gavin Hart was the Beast . “ Beauty and the Beast ” was directed by Jim Benedek , who teaches Technology Education at TJ . Julie Tipton , a TJ English and theater teacher , was the assistant director . Auditions for the spring musical were held in December and rehearsals began in January . All five performances sold out in advance !
