TJHS Students Introduce
Beowulf to Fourth-Graders
at Gill Hall
High school students from Mr. Shearouse’s Academic
English classes created children’s books for a school
project. Students traveled to Gill Hall Elementary School
to share the stories they had developed with the fourthgrade students in Ms. Froehlich’s classroom. The children’s
stories were adapted from an Anglo-Saxon epic poem
titled, Beowulf. The high school students had been
studying this poem for several weeks and took their
learning to a different level as they created their own
books, suitable for young readers, which paralleled the
story from Beowulf. After reading the adapted children’s
stories, students from both Mrs. Swogger’s and Ms.
Froehlich’s classes participated in a lively question and
answer session. The high school students also developed
hands-on activities to correspond with the stories they
had created. The fourth-grade students enjoyed listening
to the high school students’ stories and were engaged
as they participated in the collaborative activities. Thank
you to the high school students for providing such a rich,
learning experience for our students!

Celebrate the
100th Day of School
First-grade students at Gill Hall decorated
their own pizzas with 100 toppings and
wore crowns they made to celebrate that
they are 100 days smarter! Mrs. Coleman’s
PM Kindergarten Class marked the 100th
day of school by making their very own
“glasses”. The students had a great day
while learning the concept of sorting and
counting 100 objects.
