Summer of Progress
Summer was a busy season across Jefferson Hills this year as several park improvement projects were completed, bringing new recreational opportunities and enhanced amenities for residents to enjoy.
One of the most anticipated additions was the opening of the Borough ' s new dek hockey rink at Andrew E. Reilly Memorial Park. The project was completed in June with the installation of perimeter fencing, creating a safe, enclosed playing surface. Since opening, the rink has quickly become a popular gathering place for pickup games and community recreation.
In July, families also welcomed the opening of the new playground at Gill Hall Park. Featuring updated play equipment designed for a variety of ages and abilities, the new space provides an inviting area where children can climb, explore, and play.
At Lobbs Park, as well as Gill Hall Park, existing recreational facilities received a summer refresh. Three basketball courts and four pickleball courts were repainted and sealed, extending the life of the courts for both casual players and organized groups.
While many exciting projects have already been completed in 2026, even more improvements are on the horizon as the Borough continues working to enhance parks, public spaces, and community amenities to meet the needs of its growing neighborhoods.

What will Jefferson Hills look like in 10 years? That question is at the heart of the Borough ' s Comprehensive Plan.
The Borough of Jefferson Hills reached an important milestone in the Comprehensive Plan process this past spring as the draft plan officially moved into its public review phase. The plan was developed over the last few years by Pashek + MTR through resident feedback, community conversations, and discussions focused on the priorities that matter most to Jefferson Hills. Throughout the spring months, the draft Comprehensive Plan was reviewed by the Planning Commission and recommended to move forward for public and Borough Council consideration.
Residents, business owners, and stakeholders were invited to review the draft plan and submit feedback through May 25, 2026. This public review period gave the community an opportunity to help refine the document before it was presented to Borough Council for consideration in June. Council ultimately tabled formal adoption of the plan to allow additional time for review and discussion. The Comprehensive Plan is expected to return to Borough Council for consideration for formal adoption by the end of 2026.
The Comprehensive Plan examines a wide range of topics, including land use, parks and recreation, housing, economic development, public infrastructure, environmental stewardship, communication, and community character. Required under Pennsylvania law, a comprehensive plan serves as a long-range guide for future decision-making and helps shape how a community grows and evolves over time. The Comprehensive Plan is not a list of projects that will automatically happen. Instead, it provides a roadmap that Borough officials can reference when making decisions, pursuing grants, planning capital improvements, and considering future development. By establishing long-term goals, the plan helps ensure that decisions made today support the community ' s vision for tomorrow.
