ONLINE PUBLIC SAFETY TOOLS TO ENHANCE POLICE SERVICES

I am writing this article to promote new public safety tools for the residents and business owners within the Borough . At the July Council meeting , I proposed , and Borough Council approved , the purchase of additional cloud-based software technology , created by Frontline Public Safety Solutions , to better serve you and your public safety needs . This technology operates on a secure online environment portal and is separated into specific customized modules that will help the Jefferson Hills Police Department not only stay in touch with your needs but will assist with our response to calls for service and critical events .
To streamline the process of collecting and accessing information , a public portal has been added to the Borough ’ s website ( jeffersonhillsboro . org / ), under Information for Residents and Borough Departments - Police , that allows for any citizen , resident , or business owner , to make specific requests or provide pertinent information regarding their needs , thus eliminating pen and paper , phone calls , or in-person visits . Once on the website , there are icons available to choose the appropriate module commensurate with your needs . Any information that you enter , whether it be general or sensitive in nature , is secure and can only accessed by the JHPD , to better serve you and your loved ones . The following illustrates the available icons to select and a quick overview of the corresponding modules .

• At-Risk Residents - Allows parents , guardians , and caregivers the ability to provide detailed information on loved ones who may have a temporary or permanent disability , or a functional , mental health , or medical need , which requires special attention during a police encounter . Information should be updates as conditions change .
• Key Holder - Allows residents and businesses to provide emergency contact information allowing the JHPD quick access to that information should an actual emergency occur . Additionally , the JHPD requests if you have security cameras installed to please check the appropriate box when completing this module as that information may assist us with our future investigations . Participants will be reminded to update their contact information annually .
• Vacation Watch - Allows a property owner , who is going to be away for an extended period , to make formal request that the JHPD conduct a watch of the premises by completing the online form and including any specific instructions in the comments section . That information is stored permanently and the JHPD can use that information to conduct the vacation watch .
• Condition Report - Allows any citizen who observes a
CHIEF RON DZIEZGOWSKI non-emergency condition ( i . e . pot hole , dead animal , etc ..) to report that directly to the JHPD through the portal . The JHPD will review and will forward to the appropriate department for remedy . Please note this is not for reporting street light outages as there is a special tab / icon to handle that request .
• Pet Management - Offers residents the ability to add their pet information and pictures to a database in the event they become lost or found . To enter information , locate icon on the borough website , click “ Add New ” button and completes all necessary questions and hit submit to send information directly to police .
Additionally , citizens now have the ability to either compliment an officer ’ s actions for services rendered above and beyond the call of duty or file a complaint if the officer ’ s actions are questionable , through a secure online portal . This portal can be accessed on the Police Departments section of the Borough ’ s Website jeffersonhillsboro . org / Police . aspx . Once on the website , just locate and click on the icons and complete whichever selection is appropriate .
One of the JHPD ’ s many missions is to provide the Borough , its residents and business owners , with the best possible service available . To help us do our job more efficiently and effectively , I urge you to consider utilizing these modules when appropriate , and in doing so , provide detailed and accurate information so that the JHPD can stay better informed to continue to deliver the highest level of service possible . These tools are only as effective if they are used by you and the information is kept updated . I want to thank Council and the Mayor for their support and proactive approach with implementing these public safety tools .
In closing , I hope you had the opportunity to enjoy quality time with family and friends during the summer months and made lasting memories with those you love . As we return to local schools being in session , I would like to kindly remind all motorists to slow down , be mindful of your surroundings and posted speed limits while you travel the roadways of Jefferson Hills and be vigilant for children and pedestrians crossing the roadway .
