The West Jefferson Hills School District welcomed Dr . Cassandra Bozek and Nick Fierst to the central administration team this summer .

Dr . Bozek joined the district in June as Supervisor of Special Education and Pupil Services . Dr . Bozek comes to the district from Belle Vernon Area School District , where she had served as the Coordinator of Student Services since August 2018 and as an Assistant Principal her initial four years . In her role , she was responsible for implementing special education and gifted programs and services . Dr . Bozek previously was the Director of Special Education and an Assistant Principal with the Jefferson Morgan SD and was a special education teacher with Intermediate Unit 1 .

Dr . Bozek earned her undergraduate and master ’ s degrees in Special Education from California University of Pennsylvania . She earned her doctorate in Educational Leadership and Administration from Point Park University and her principal certification from Duquesne University . She garnered a 4.0 grade-point average during her master ’ s and doctoral studies .

Nick Fierst returned to the district in July to serve as Director of Facilities . Fierst previously was with WJHSD as Facilities Manager from August 2016-March 2020 , where he was responsible for all day-to-day operations of the facilities department . He comes to the district from the Bethel Park School District , where he served as the Director of Facilities and Services for two years . In his role , Fierst supervised all maintenance and custodial operations , as well as small and capital projects at BPSD . He was responsible for oversight of 11 buildings , including eight school buildings , as well as the athletic facilities .

Fierst earned his degree in Elementary Education from California University of Pennsylvania . He began his career as a substitute teacher before serving as a maintenance technician at Kennywood Park , where he was responsible for in-season maintenance of all amusement rides . He then served as Kennywood ’ s Group Sales Manager before joining WJHSD in 2016 .

Community Days

West Jefferson Hills SD had a booth at Jefferson Hills and Pleasant Hills Community Days this summer ( PH scheduled for August 13 ). Members of the WJHSD staff , including new superintendent Dr . Janet Sardon , enjoyed meeting with community members , current and former students and their families . Kids were able to take home a book and a sweet treat and there were other handouts and giveaways . We look forward to seeing you at the 2023 Community Days !

Paw Prints Display Jaguar Pride Across District

Gold paw prints began popping up on driveways across the district this summer in another exhibition of Jaguar pride . The paw prints were a fund raiser for the Thomas Jefferson HS Marching Band and were painted by band members and their families . The paw prints are expected to remain for approximately two years on the driveways .
