Welcome to the West Jefferson Hills School District ’ s 2022-23 school year ! As we start the new school year , there are many great things to be excited for and we ’ re looking forward to having all the students and staff back in the buildings .
On behalf of our entire team , we look forward to providing all students with a superior education in a safe , caring and positive environment where students come first every day . Whether you are a proud alumnus of the district with children of your own attending our schools or joining the district for the first time as a new family , we warmly welcome you . Jaguar pride runs deep in our hearts and in the three communities we serve and , judging by our continued growth in enrollment and community development , many others feel the same .
The district will complete a new enrollment / demographic study beginning in October to better understand trends and projections for future enrollment and growth as a school district . WJHSD continues to be one of the fastest-growing school districts in the county and across the Commonwealth . Rapid and sustained growth of this nature takes considerable planning and forethought to respond proactively . It is anticipated that the study will be completed in spring 2023 and provide district leaders with valuable information to use in planning for our future . In the meantime , enrollment and class size trends are monitored closely and , when deemed necessary , additional staff is added . Even though we continue to grow , we ’ re still able to accommodate an increasing number of students and staff in each of our schools .
We extend a sincere thank you to all the WJHSD employees who worked throughout the summer months to prepare all campuses for reopening . It is amazing to see first-hand what it takes to get each of the schools ready and how hard an army of dedicated employees work to make sure everything is just right . We also thank the many teachers , paraeducators , administrators , administrative support staff , custodians , maintenance staff and many others who worked tirelessly to prepare for 2022-23 “ behind the scenes .” It truly takes each and every one of our 400-plus team members to make our school district a great place to learn , work and celebrate , and for that we say “ thank you .”
We look forward to continuing the work begun years ago designed to improve teaching and learning . Many new programs , curricula and activities for students are now successfully in place

and producing great results . Now is the time to nurture this important work and allow it to become firmly grounded in our dayto-day activities . Our commitment to providing faculty , staff and administrators with meaningful and relevant professional learning opportunities remains strong and focused . These opportunities allow us to continue to provide the high-quality education our community deserves and has come to expect . There is no better investment one can make than in education and we ’ re excited about what is ahead .
The district is proud of Pleasant Hills Middle School , as the school was re-designated A Don Eichhorn Schools : “ School to Watch ” for a second consecutive time . We would like to thank all PHMS students , parents , families , staff and administrators that work hard every day , every year to make our middle school grades educational and fun . Mr . Como and his staff continue to lead the way in developing a positive culture for our students .
Thomas Jefferson High School students have worked throughout the summer to prepare , plan and organize the ninth grade Jaguar LEAP Orientation program – Learn , Empower , Achieve , Persevere ( LEAP ). The ninth grade students started the mid-August day with a grand entrance , breakfast provided by our fantastic TJ Connections parent group and had a team-building activity with student LEAP leaders . The day concluded after information sessions about the daily schedule , dignity and respect , clubs and Personal Learning Time ( PLT ). After receiving their class schedule , the students toured the building .
Transitioning to high school can be difficult for students , but TJ ’ s Jaguar LEAP leaders were committed to helping everyone feel comfortable , to understand high school expectations and to share how much fun the next four years will be as they prepare for their future endeavors . Thanks to the Jaguar LEAP student leaders , TJHS staff and administrators for putting together an outstanding program .
Thank you for your continued support and pride in the West Jefferson Hills School District . May the year ahead be filled with many new experiences and great joy for you , your children and family . If we can be of assistance to you at any time , please feel free to contact us .
Go Jaguars !
