PITTSBURGH BOTANIC GARDENS!
It’ s a great time to go“ gardening”! The Margaret Lawrence Simon Dogwood Meadow is in full bloom this time of year, with the lacy, delicate trees.
Over time, this beautiful landscape has evolved from untouched woodlands to a farmstead with crops and grazing cattle, and finally to its current status as a meadow. This unique environment lends itself to the discovery of insects and native sun-loving plants. But one of its special features is an area of more than 500 naturally occurring Cornus florida( flowering dogwood) trees. It’ s a stunning
spring view, and the property also has a gazebo and apiary, to highlight the importance of bees in our world.
Another great place to visit at the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden is the Heritage Homestead. It is a reflection of the early European settlers who arrived in the area beginning in the late 1700s. The lives of these settlers were influenced greatly by

KEYNOTES MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION 2026
There’ s still time to apply for this year’ s Keynotes Music Scholarship! The deadline is April 30. Cash awards totaling more than $ 16,000 will be available. Requirements to apply include students who are enrolled full time as a music major at a college, university or music school, or graduating high school seniors accepted for admission as a full-time music major. Contestants must also be a current legal resident of Pennsylvania for at least one year, or an out-of-state student attending a school in Pennsylvania.( Proof of residency is required.)
Instrumentalists must be 26 years of age or under as of June 1, 2025, and vocalists must be under the age of 30.
