40th Anniversary Celebration
Raises $100,000 for Pediatric
Hospice Services
We are pleased to share that our 40th Anniversary Celebration in
October raised $100,000, net proceeds of which will go toward
the expansion of our pediatric programs and services.
Death at any age brings sorrow to loved ones left behind, but
many would agree that there is nothing more devastating than
the death of a child. The generous support of attendees will
pay for extensive pediatric training for Pathways’ clinical staff,
outreach to Children’s Hospital and area pediatric practices, pediatric medical equipment and supplies, child-friendly
furnishings that can be placed in a room at our Care Center for when we admit a child for inpatient care, expanded
grief and loss offerings and more.
The event gathered 300 community members to support this important cause. In addition to raising funds for pediatric
hospice care, the event also honored five individuals who have contributed to the past 40 years of Pathways in a
monumental way: Mary Dellenbach, Carole Egger, Christy & Tom French and Earl Sethre.
Mary Dellenbach has been a Pathways volunteer since 1994 and served on the Pathways board of directors from 1998-
2016. Her passion and willingness to support Pathways is boundless, from baking cookies for families at the Pathways
Hospice Care Center to making sure the Children’s Healing Garden become a reality.
Carole Egger began her Pathways journey as a volunteer courier in 2001 and served on the board from 2002-2008.
During this time, she co-chaired the capital campaign to build the Grief and Loss Counseling Center, which included
Carole’s vision, the Memory Garden. In 2016, Carole donated a bronze sculpture, “Serenity,” to Pathways which spurred
the idea of the Children’s Healing Garden.
Christy and Tom French have a long personal history with Pathways, with eight of their family members receiving
hospice care over the past three decades. In 1994, their four-year-old daughter, Abby, was referred to hospice care,
which provided the inspiration for the “Abby’s Signature Concert Series.” Christy and Tom’s personal experience and
connection with Pathways have given them a deep passion for palliative care, end-of-life care and the importance of
dealing with grief and loss.
Earl joined the Pathways board of directors in 1993 and served until 2006. He also served as co-chair for two capital
campaigns - one for the first building, the second for the new Pathways for Grief and Loss Center. Earl says that being
involved with hospice has helped him to be a more compassionate and understanding individual when it comes to
terminal illness, death and dying.
