S L ittle L ions outh Fayette celebrated its annual Homecoming festivities the week of September 24. During the week, the high school student government sponsored a variety of events and programs for the student body, including spirit days during the week and a White Out at the Friday football game. One of the largest events of Homecoming is the Homecoming Carnival, which was coordinated by senior Aubrey Lutz. This year, South Fayette celebrated its 13th annual carnival, with Two Brothers BBQ, Moe’s Southwest Grill, BRGR, Chick-fil-A, Kona Ice, and over 20 student and booster groups participating. Despite the rainy evening, hundreds of community members attended the event and enjoyed food, games, and other activities at South Fayette Stadium. Friday night the Lions defeated Blackhawk, and the members of the Homecoming court were recognized during a special pregame show. Representing the underclassmen were freshmen Abigail Neel and Colton Johnston, sophomores Audrey Logan and Josh James, and juniors Elise Kraeuter and Ryan Carter. The Class of 2019 representatives were Avrey Barnes, Brooke Bushmire, Rachel Dorfner, Aubrey Hetland, Joey Black, Noah Kilgus, Riley Supan, and Jackson DeWitt. At halftime, Joey Giaquinto and Helina VanBibber were crowned the 2018 South Fayette Homecoming King and Queen. Joey is President of the Interact Club, a senior chair for Mini-THON, a member of the Spanish Club, and a captain of the boys lacrosse team. Helina is Treasurer of the Senior Class, a member of National Honor Society and the Girls STEAM Team, represents South Fayette as a captain on the girls varsity soccer team, and is a member of the varsity football team. She has received the Presidential Scholar Award, Jackie Robinson Award, and Girl Scout Silver Award. Almost from the start of school, volunteers have been working to build the decorations to transform the school for the Homecoming dance. This year the student overseeing the Homecoming dance, senior Maura Gagliardino, and her team selected an Outer Space theme for the event. On Saturday, over 590 students enjoyed the Homecoming dance in the high school gym. Homecoming is a major event in the South Fayette community and one of several events that is sponsored and coordinated by the high school Student Government. We are glad so many members of our community were able to enjoy the events associated with the 2018 Homecoming festivities!
