The Lady Lions made it to the Girls Varsity Basketball WPIAL Class 5A Championship game and won for the third time in four years then proceeded to their third consecutive state championship game resulting in their second consecutive victory. Both Haylie Lamonde and Juliette Leroux achieved 1,000 career points this season. Ryan Oldaker and Lailah Wright were named to the 2025-2026 Class 5A Section 3 Girls Basketball All-Section First Team along with Haylie and Juliette. Kenzie Rumberger and Ella Vierra were named to the Second Team. Coach Bryan Bennett was named Section 3 Coach of the Year.

The Competitive Cheerleading team finished second in their division and fourth overall at the WPIAL Championship. They also performed at the PIAA State Championship, placing ninth of 42 qualifying teams.

The Hockey Club team finished with ten wins and 11 losses this season, making it to the quarterfinal round of the PIHL playoffs. The JV Team also made it into the PIHL playoffs, with a 5- 8- 3 season.

It was a great season for SFHS’ s Swimmers and Divers as they competed individually. DJ Poe achieved a WPIAL Sweep, qualifying in all of the swimming events. Only permitted to compete in two, he finished second in the 500 Freestyle( beating his own school record by four seconds) and third in the 200

Freestyle. Grant Logan took eighth place in the 100 Backstroke. Lindsay Anderson qualified to compete in the WPIAL diving championship. In the WPIAL Class 3A Girls Swimming Championships, medals were earned by the Girls 200 Medley Relay Team of Abby Poe, Cloey Barnes, Macy Koerner, and Carrie Fisher with a sixth place finish. Macy and Abby both also medaled in individual events coming in seventh in the 100 Butterfly and 500 Freestyle, respectively. At the state level, DJ took fifth place in the 500 Freestyle and 16th in the 200 Freestyle. The Girls 200 Medley Relay finished 21st, and Macy earned 27th in the Girls 100 Butterfly.

The Boys and Girls Indoor Track and Field teams also saw tremendous individual success. At the state level, athletes competed in the PTFCA Indoor Track State Championships where sophomore Angela Zeng set a new school record and earned a second place finish in the one mile. Senior Delaney Schumaker finished seventh in the 60m Hurdles, also setting a new school record. The Girls Distance Medley

Relay team of Nina DiMartini, Ellena Gibbs, Madeline Stock, and Angela came in third. Proceeding to the New Balance Indoor Track and Field Nationals, the Girls Distance Medley Relay team finished fifth, beating the school record they’ d set at states, and were named New Balance All Americans. Angela set a new school record in the 5,000m, finishing 10th overall. South Fayette now holds the # 1 spot in the state in both events.

Competing via a co-op with Fort Cherry, Ella Trahan won her second straight Girls Wrestling WPIAL title and took second in her weight class at the PIAA Western Regional Championship. The SF Boys Varsity Wrestlers found success in individual competition this season. Connor Dean, Brock Dennison, and Peter Leventis all advanced in their respective weight classes to the WPIAL 3-A Individual Wrestling Championships. Peter placed seventh and finished his season with 42 wins ranking him eighth all-time on SFHS’ s single season win list. He took his season all the way to the PIAA Western Regional Championships.

The following student-athletes solidified their commitments to continue their athletic careers in college on National Signing Day in February: Rylee Binion at Seton Hill University for Soccer, Adeline DeWitt at University of Kentucky for Cheer / Stunt, Mason Green at Seton Hill University for Football, Brady Newman at Penn West California University for Golf, Brynn Mey at Washington and Jefferson College for Lacrosse, Abby Poe at University of Indianapolis for Triathalon, Delaney Schumaker at University of Pittsburgh for Track, Bo Stover at Pennsylvania College of Technology for Baseball, Lanna Thomas at Bloomsburg University for Volleyball, Brayden Tiley at Washington and Jefferson College for Lacrosse, and Drew Welhorsky at Robert Morris University for Lacrosse.
