UNESCO Club T he UNESCO Club meets monthly to explore cultures and traditions of countries around the world. The students interact with a partner school in Brazil through the Gigipan Educational Website. This year they focused on holidays celebrated around the world, by including crafts, games, activities, and food. At the UNESCO Club meeting in March, students viewed short video demonstrations on how to set up and use Gigipan Robots. The robots were used to take Gigipan Panoramic photos outside, including the Varsity track meet at the stadium. Veteran UNESCO Club members assisted new members with using the Gigipan. The club used the Gigipan outh Fayette South Fayette Township S C HO OL DIS T RIC T NE WS South Fayette Technology Student Association (TSA) Competes at States F or the 18th straight year, South Fayette High School Technology Student Association (TSA) students have competed in the rigorous state competitions under the advisement of Brain Garlick. This association is the longest running STEM related academic program in the District that began with 5 students during the 2005-2006 school year and has grown to over 40 this year. This year 26 students were eligible to compete in various state events after qualifying in the regional competitions in January. The state events were held April 9-11, 2014 at Seven 60 South Fayette Robots to take pictures of the new Intermediate School in April and will be attending the Student Ambassador Conference in May. Springs with the following students representing South Fayette TSA; Seniors Aaron Gaunt, Broderick Haney, Max Hanich, Ben Kenawell, Josh Phillips, and Jake Sustrich; Juniors Gavin Allcorn, Mark Babatunde, Lauryn Blum, Karan Bokil, Allison Brown, Anthony Ciamacco, Sarah Hertzler, Nick Karafilis, Alice Kenawell, Brooke Ley, Brennan McCann, Matt Speidel, Jessica Walasik, and Jackie Witwicki; Sophomore Cara Price; and Freshmen Brayden Allcorn, Sam Cohen, David Hudock, Mitansh Madan, and Nick Wilke. After three days of individual and/or team testing, interviews, technology and engineering competitions, the following students ranked in the top ten out of the entire state. Congratulations to Kara Price who took 2nd place in both Biomedical Essay and Promotional Graphics; Mark Babatunde took 10th place in Career Prep; and the team of Allison Brown, Sarah Hertzler, Ben Kenawell and Cara Price placed 10th in the Webmaster event.
