HELPING TO CREATE THE WOODVILLE EXPERIENCE
Woodville , the historical home of John and Presley Neville , thanks all who have been supportive of the raising of a new barn on the property . The board and staff look forward to being able to officially open it to the public , hold events , and have it add more to an already enjoyable “ Woodville Experience .”
Woodville has been on a mission to expand the historic site and create an entire experience for visitors , both current and future .
Over the past 235 + years , Woodville stood against the elements , rebel attacks , reconstruction , and unfortunately , neglect . During its early years , the grounds were a much-welcomed rest stop and sanctuary for weary travelers and dignitaries . Most famously , it was a focal point for the Whiskey Rebellion of the 1790s .
Today , Woodville is a National Historic Landmark , known for its rich history as the oldest standing residential property in western Pennsylvania . It was first constructed by Brigadier General John Neville in 1775 , and its subsequent ties to the Whiskey Rebellion are a great part of what draws visitors .
With community support , the organization envisions being able to share countless more slices of history and important perspectives regarding early American life in the Pittsburgh region through the reconstruction project .
For information on how you can help , contribute , and become part of the process , visit the GoFundMe page at gofund . me / 09376cd6 or woodvilleexperience . org . Also stay tuned for updates on a Barn Raising and Recognition Ceremony .
Join Woodville ’ s effort to bring the legacy of the past into the future !
The organization is appreciative of the community support thus far , including those who have donated and expressed their interest in the Woodville Experience going forward . n
