Special Olympic Track Club Competes
South Fayette School District
Special Olympic Track and Field
Club participated at the Special
Olympics of Allegheny County
(SOAC) Summer Games held at
Baldwin High School Stadium
on Saturday, May 12, 2018.
Sixteen athletes practiced on
Sunday afternoons to prepare
for the games. The athletes
competed in the 50 meter dash,
100 meter dash, standing long
jump, tennis ball throw, kick for
distance, turbo javelin throw,
and softball hit for distance.
Athletes earned gold, silver,
and bronze medals. The District
was very proud of the athletes
and looking forward to a team
next year!
Nurse Excellence Award Winner
Kara Miles, South Fayette Elementary School Nurse, received the School
Nurse Excellence Award for the Southwestern Region of Pennsylvania for
2018. Her peers nominated her for her outstanding service to the students
and staff of the school she serves. Kara goes above and beyond to meet the
needs of the elementary school students on a daily basis, and she does it
with a smile. Kara was presented her School Nurse Excellence Award at the
Pennsylvania Association of School Nurses and Practitioners award banquet
on April 14, 2018, at Penn State. Her South Fayette nurse colleagues were
also in attendance at the banquet. Kara thanked her family, her fellow District
nurses, her administration, her building staff and faculty, her school board, and
the entire South Fayette community for their support during her acceptance
speech. This award entitles Kara to be eligible for the National Association of
School Nurses 2019 Pennsylvania School Nurse of the Year Award.

HS Spring Musical
“Hello, Dolly!”
Senior Anna Thompson was double cast as
matchmaker Dolly Levi in South Fayette High
School’s spring 2018 production of the Tony Award-
winning musical “Hello, Dolly!”
