UPDATE ON HSWA BOND ISSUE CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS
CRAWFORD POOL UPDATE
Crawford Pool opened in 1964 and the basic design of the pool has remained unchanged since that time. The Township has made some minor improvements and installed a water slide in the early 1990’ s. Over the past few years, the Township has made improvements to the aesthetic layout of the pool, however the infrastructure is beginning to show its’ age and is need of rehabilitation. The Township has hired a recreation specialist to review the layout and construction of the pool and recommend changes to the infrastructure and water attractions. Considerations will include moderations to the baby pool area, the water slide, fencing configurations and possibility of a water spray park area. At this time the renovations are at the“ drawing board” stage and will be evaluated upon receipt of the consultants’ study and available funding. The study will be discussed at an upcoming Parks and Recreation Committee meeting and will be publicized on the Township website. Please be advised that the Shaler Township Board of Commissioners are committed to improvements at Crawford Pool and that the 2017 season will bring exciting changes for everyone haler
TOWNSHIP OF SHALER NEWS
In the fall of 2015, Hampton Shaler Water Authority( HSWA) opened a $ 6 million bond issue. These monies were to be used to help augment HSWA’ s efforts to replace aging infrastructure. This year was the first construction season to utilize the additional bond issue funds and it will continue through calendar year 2018.
This year, the following projects were completed:
• Felicity Pump Station Upgrades – new variable speed pumps were installed with more pumping capacity to enable HSWA to better serve the northern tier of our service area.
• Rosanna-Birchwood-Anderson Transmission Main – in conjunction with the Felicity Pump Station project, we installed 5,500 feet of new 12” transmission main to connect between Harts Run Road and Route 8 via Rosanna, Birchwood and Anderson Drives in Hampton Township.
• Fenway Road – Using a contractor, we replaced 2,200 feet of aging water main ahead of Shaler Township paving the road.
• Rosebriar Avenue – With a contractor, we placed 3,400 feet of aging water main ahead of Shaler Township paving the road.
• Mount Royal Boulevard – A contractor replaced 3,800 feet of problematic water main that was prone to repeated breaks in Hampton Township.
• Sharpshill Road – A contractor replaced 1,800 feet of water main that was prone to breaks in Shaler Township.
• Harts Run Road – A contractor replaced 3,100 feet of water main that had repeated breaks in its history in Hampton Township.
So over the course of 2016, the bond issue helped HSWA replace over 14,300 feet( 2.7 miles) of water line above our typical construction budget. This is on top of the 1.5 miles of pipeline that HSWA’ s crews will have replaced in-house in 2016 and the new 5,500 feet( 1.1 miles) of new transmission main on Rosanna- Birchwood-Anderson.
We are already in survey / design stage on a whole host of projects for 2017, so keep an eye on our website( www. hswa-pa. org) under Current and Future Projects to stay in the loop on our construction throughout the year.
