CONGRATULATIONS OFFICER STEINMETZ Chief Bryan Kelly and the members of the Shaler Township Police Department would like to congratulate Officer Gregory Steinmetz on his retirement after 28 years of service. During his tenure, Officer Steinmetz has served as a DARE Officer, a First Aid and CPR Instructor, and maintained his certification as an Emergency Medical Technician through the PA Department of Health – EMS Division. He has remained an active member of the Undercliff Volunteer Fire Company. Gregg and his wife Carol look forward to spending their weekends at his family’s cottage and enjoying time with their grandson. Fires must be at least 15 feet from the nearest structure, neighbor’s dwelling or inhabited area, including: • Property line • Roadway • Sidewalk • Public access area Fires may be no larger than 3’ wide by 3’ long by 2’ high and must be attended at all times by a competent person at least 18 years of age. Burning Material: No material other than clean wood, propane or natural gas may be open burned except for: • Commercial available fire logs, paraffin logs or wood pellets. • Paper and commercial smokeless fire starters in order to start a fire. • Charcoal for the preparation of food only. Air Quality Action Days: Wood burning activities are prohibited on Air Quality Action days, with the exception of burning for the commercial preparation of food. Please remember that flying embers may ignite nearby combustible materials and/or other structures. As the homeowner or tenant, you are ultimately responsible for any recreational fires burning on the property. School Crossing Guard Opening The Township is seeking part-time substitute school crossing guards. Hours vary by assignment but are 2-4 hours per day. You must obtain all child clearances as required by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
