Congratulations to the Shaler Area High School Class of 2016 who celebrated commencement on June 3!
The commencement program celebrated the accomplishments of more than 390 students who graduated with the Shaler Area Class of 2016.
Senior members of the choir gave a special performance of The Star Spangled Banner and Alma Mater and student speeches were given by Tarah Pipchok, senior class president, as well as Zachary Hughes, valedictorian and Taylor Laffey, salutatorian. “ We are very pleased to welcome Ms. Graczyk to Shaler Area and feel strongly that she will be an excellent addition to our administrative team,” says Sean Aiken, superintendent.
“ Ms. Graczyk comes to Shaler Area with a wealth of knowledge and experience in public education, special education and leadership. We are excited for the opportunity to bring Ms. Graczyk to Shaler Area and feel she will be an asset to our school district.”
Graczyk has more than 20 years of experience in public education as a teacher, principal and director of district programs. She is currently overseeing all aspects of the student services department at Plum Borough School District as the director of special education and pupil services.
“ I am very excited to join Shaler Area School District’ s administrative team as the Director of Student Services,” says. Graczyk.“ I’ m looking forward to working with the administration and staff to continue to provide the most rigorous and relevant education to all students.”
Graczyk has a master’ s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Penn State University and a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She also holds her Superintendent Letter of Eligibility from California University of Pennsylvania, and she is currently working on her doctorate in Educational Leadership at the University of Pittsburgh.
Graczyk lives in Sarver, Buffalo Township, with her husband, Pat, and their three children.

Shaler Area Welcomes Kathleen Graczyk as Director of Student Services
Shaler Area School District is proud to welcome Kathleen Graczyk as the new Director of Student Services.
Shaler Area School Board approved Graczyk as Shaler Area’ s next the Director of Student Services during the voting meeting on Wednesday, July 13. Graczyk replaces William Watson who retired in June after 18 years in the position. Graczyk was approved at an annual salary of $ 110,000, prorated.

Shaler Area U15 boys lacrosse team volunteered their time on June 2 to plant a flower garden in the Shaler Area Middle School courtyard. Coach Alan Jaspert has organized the service learning project for three consecutive years to encourage the young athletes to volunteer their time and talents.
