Student Mentorship
Earlier this year, the cast and crew of the sixth-grade musical, Shrek Kids, were visited by the actresses who played young Fiona, teen Fiona, and adult Fiona in the 2020 Shaler Area High School production of Shrek. The three young women worked with their sixth-grade counterparts and performed“ I Know It’ s Today” alongside them. It was a wonderful example of alumni and current students coming together to celebrate the Performing Arts in Shaler Area.
Tinkercast Field Trip
Through the Shaler Area STEM program, students at Marzolf Primary had the chance to attend a wonderfully fun and exciting interactive maker show made possible through the generous support of Remake Learning and The Grable Foundation. The show was presented by Tinkercast, the children’ s media company behind award-winning educational podcasts and kid-friendly STEM content designed to spark curiosity and imagination. It was an unforgettable experience for our students.

Grammar at the Grammys
In March, Burchfield Primary School hosted their annual event Grammar at the Grammys. It is incredible to see students so engaged and excited about learning, bringing grammar concepts to life through creativity, music, and performance. Experiences like this are a wonderful example of how SASD staff continue to make learning meaningful, memorable, and fun for students.
Turning Pages Together: Reserve Primary’ s Reading Engagement Night
Reserve Primary School hosted a Reading Engagement Night to help families make reading a richer part of home life. Reading Specialist Elizabeth Van Horne Ries emphasized the vital link between educators and families in building confident, driven learners. The evening centered on a simple truth: reading together matters. Shared stories build vocabulary, spark imagination, and strengthen family bonds— sending children the message that reading is something to love, not just a school requirement.
