GLENSHAW CENTURY CLUB EMPOWERS LOCAL STUDENTS AND COMMUNITY haler TOWNSHIP OF SHALER NEWS

The Glenshaw Century Club celebrated another successful year of empowering local students and supporting community initiatives at its annual higher education grant event held during its monthly membership meeting. On Tuesday, April 22, 2025, the Club awarded twelve deserving high school seniors from the Shaler Area School District $ 32,000 to aid their pursuit of further education across various fields. This longstanding tradition, dating back to the 1960s, has seen the club contribute over $ 700,000 in grants to aspiring scholars in the region.

Through the generous contributions of local businesses, donors, and club members, an additional $ 17,000 has been channeled to local civic organizations, providing crucial support to those in need within our community.

ELFINWILD LIONS CLUB
The Elfinwild Lions Club is sponsoring the Tom Rogers Memorial Duck Race on June 21st at 11:00 a. m. at Fawcett Fields on McElheny Road. Ducks are $ 5 each and refreshments will be available. The Shaler Library will have ducks for sale or you can call 412.487.1888 to purchase ducks.
SHALER AREA ROTARY CLUB
The Shaler Area Rotary continues to combat food insecurity in our community and was approved for a matching Rotary district grant to donate $ 5000 to support the Shaler Backpack Initiative. The Shaler Area Backpack Initiative is a great program established in 2014 to assist district students in need of weekend food supplies. Shaler Rotary awards two $ 2000 scholarships to district Seniors attending secondary education and this year we wanted to congratulate our recipients, Zenon Cieslak and Liam Creagh. Zenon will be studying Computational Biology at Colby College and Liam will attend the University of Pittsburgh’ s School of Engineering. We wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors. To continue our community service projects, the Shaler Area Rotary Club hosts an annual charity golf outing at Wildwood Golf Club. Save the date for this year’ s event which is on Monday, September 15th, 2025 with a noon tee off. We have an open invitation for sponsors and golfers to join us.
