Transition to a K – 5 elementary model while retaining all four neighborhood elementary schools( Burchfield, Marzolf, Reserve, and Scott)

support long-term operational sustainability
THE WORKING PLAN WOULD:
GRADES 6-8
Align middle school programming for Grades 6 – 8
reduce student transitions
Position the District to reinvest in its remaining school sites
Based on community feedback, this prioritizes maintaining Burchfield, Marzolf, Reserve, and Scott Primary Schools as K – 5 neighborhood elementary schools. haler area school district SHALER AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT NEWS

4TH GRADE
At the conclusion of the 2025 – 2026 school year, no students will transition to Shaler Area Elementary School( SAES). Rising 4th-grade students will remain in their neighborhood schools.
Beginning in August 2027, rising 6th and 7th grade students will transition directly to Shaler Area Middle School, where programming will be fully aligned for Grades 6 – 8.
This phased approach ensures a smooth transition for students, provides stability for families, and allows the District to plan thoughtfully for instructional programming, staffing, and facilities.
