BUILT ON KINDNESS
In May, our community came together for something truly special: 143 Day of Kindness! Named for Mister Rogers’ code for“ I love you” based on the number of letters in each word, 143 Day is an annual celebration of connection.
This year’ s theme, Built on Kindness, couldn’ t ring more true— and the 5th Annual event brought that theme to life in more ways than ever before. A brandnew Touch a Job experience, developed in partnership with A. W. Beattie Career Center and community professionals, gave our youngest learners a handson look at the world of work. Nineteen interactive stations, alongside the Community Expo and Touch-A- Truck, offered engaging experiences for every age and interest. Live performances by ensembles featuring students in grades 5 – 12 highlighted the depth of Shaler Area’ s music program— a place where so many students find a true sense of belonging. The 2nd Annual Upstanders Awards, presented by students from Shaler Area Middle School, honored members of the district and community who have made lasting, positive contributions to Shaler Area. Throughout the evening, community partnerships and family engagement reminded us all why these moments matter.
“ The 5th Annual Shaler Area 143 Day of Kindness reflects what makes our district and community so special. By creating opportunities for everyone to feel welcomed, valued, and engaged in experiences that celebrate a variety of interests, we strengthen the culture of kindness, creativity, and connection that defines Shaler Area every day.”
