WHAT ’ S NEWS IN ROSS TOWNSHIP
CARDINAL WUERL NORTH CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCES INITIATIVE TO HONOR ROONEYS
Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic High School is proud to announce an initiative honoring Ambassador Dan Rooney ( Class of 1950 ) and Patricia Rooney in recognition of their hard work and generosity . The upgraded athletic practice area will be named the Ambassador Dan Rooney Athletic Complex and the school library will be named the Patricia Rooney Library .
Phase One of the initiative will enhance library services by expanding technology , and will also enable the student government to participate in leadership development programs . Phase One will also upgrade the athletic practice fields , including regrading , adding irrigation , drainage and new sod , which will provide improved surfaces for sports teams and the marching band .
“ Mr . and Mrs . Rooney have touched and influenced so many lives in the areas of education , civic leadership and athletics that it is only appropriate we try to honor them with these recognitions ,” says Kevin Colbert ( Board Member and Class of 1975 ). Construction was set to begin on Nov . 1 with a dedication soon thereafter .
DIGITAL BOOT CAMP FOR PARENTS SERIES
Northland Public Library along with CCAC North and the North Allegheny and North Hills school districts will present a monthly Saturday morning series to educate middle school and high school parents on best practices for digital citizenship , called the Digital Boot Camp for Parents Series .
These programs will run monthly during the school year and will be held at CCAC North in room 3002 , from 8:30 to 10 a . m . Doors open at 8:30 a . m ., and the presentation begins promptly at 9 a . m . Space is limited . An American Sign Language interpreter will be present .

Online applications for athletics , college admissions and financial aid contain highly sensitive information . Protecting your digital identity is essential . This session will cover the nuts and bolts of keeping your student ’ s future safe .
Talking About Technology With Your Student – Saturday , Feb . 25 , from 8:30 to 10 a . m .
Technology and the Internet are powerful tools . Talking to your student about them is vital in raising a knowledgeable digital citizen . Learn essential topics and ways to initiate this conversation . This session will also cover digital health and wellness issues , like Internet addiction .
Social Media Apps – Saturday , Mar . 25 , from 8:30 to 10 a . m .
This session will cover three specific social media apps , like Snapchat . It will also offer some tips and best practices for managing social apps .
Making Technology Work for You – Saturday , Apr . 22 , from 8:30 to 10 a . m .
Our students have the ability to design new computer programs , create videos and build smartphone apps . Without proper guidance , these positive behaviors can cross the line into criminal offenses . This session will touch on the ethics of technology and explain the limits of legal hacking and downloading .
SEVILLE VOLUNTEER FIRE COMPANY RECEIVES NEW ENGINE
On Friday , Aug . 18 , at 5 p . m ., the Seville Volunteer Fire Company in Ross Township took delivery of a brand-new , custom-built $ 500,000 fire engine . This was very important for the Seville VFC because last year , in an unfortunate accident , the company ’ s pumper was totaled — and as a result the organization had been borrowing Millvale Fire Department ’ s old pumper to provide fire protection for Ross residents .

GATEWAY NORTH AARP # 3586 MONTHLY MEETINGS
Gateway North AARP # 3586 holds monthly meetings on the third Monday of each month at 1 p . m . in the West View Banquet Hall located at 398 Perry Highway . Each meeting is short and followed by entertainment , coffee and dessert . Everyone is welcome .
LINDA LANHAM ZESZUTEK SCHOOL PROGRAM
Easter Seals Western and Central Pennsylvania is pleased to introduce the Linda Lanham Zeszutek School Program , serving children ages 3 to 8 with Autism , Cerebral Palsy , Neurological Impairment , Muscular Dystrophy and multiple disabilities in its new Cranberry Township location .
