Companies. The fact is, over all less than 30% of Ross residents and less than 5% of Ross businesses donate to their home fire company. Every fire company solicits their fire district directly through mail fund drives, fund raisers, and direct visits. Ross Fire Companies do not solicit through phone calls, and no organization is authorized to phone solicit on behalf of our Volunteers. Donations to outside organizations DO NOT benefit your home Ross Fire Company. MUNICIPAL SUPPORT - Ross Township provides an annual donation equally to all eight Fire Companies. With Fire Company annual budgets varying from $100,000 to $250,000 the Township donation comprises 25% to 60% of our Volunteer’s budgets. As you can see a significant amount of fund raising must be done just to operate our Fire Companies. Ross Township does provide additional support to the fire service in the form of Fire Marshal services, fire hydrant rentals, fire apparatus fuel, fire training tower support, vehicle liability insurance, workers compensation insurance and other matters required by the Pennsylvania first class township code. VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER NUMBERS FALL ACROSS THE COUNTRY - Every Ross Township Fire Company continues to see a decreasing number of members. This necessitates an ever increasing workload on the remaining Volunteers. Fund raising continues to require more time of our firefighters. There are many jobs in the fire service that do not require actual firefighting. Administrative, accounting, clerical, and information technology opportunities are plentiful. Come join us in this very rewarding and vital public service. Contact your home fire company. CONTINUED PUBLIC FINANCIAL SUPPORT IS VITAL - Our Volunteer Fire Companies save Ross Township millions of tax dollars each year. Citizens want an effective, economical and financially sound Volunteer Fire service. Therefore we ask that you give a tax deductible donation to your home fire company, so we may continue to serve you.
