ROSS TOWNSHIP NEWS
Rain barrels are a great way to conserve water, to supply nonchlorinated water for gardening, and to keep excess water out of the stormwater system, thus alleviating some of the stormwater issues plaguing the region. Workshop attendees will learn about the problems associated with stormwater runoff and ways to conserve and protect water resources.
Participants will receive a pre-made FreeGarden RAIN 55-gallon rain barrel. Designed with the homeowner / gardener in mind, it is affordable, attractive, and easy to install. A rain barrel is a system that connects to your downspout to collect and store rain water from your roof that would otherwise be lost to runoff and diverted to storm drains, streams, and rivers.
Workshop participants will learn how to harvest rainwater from their roofs, store it, and use it in the landscape. They also learn how to reduce their contribution to combined sewer overflow( CSO), flooding, and polluted urban runoff by learning how to practice watershed protection and conservation in their own backyards. It’ s easier than you think!
