MESSAGE FROM JOSEPH LEY ROSS TOWNSHIP’ S NEW CHIEF OF POLICE

I was honored and privileged to be appointed by the Ross Township Board of Commissioners as your Chief of Police for Ross Township on April 1, 2016. I have been with the Ross Township Police department since 1990 and have worked my way up through all of the ranks to achieve this position. I took this job those many years ago because I always had a desire to want to help people who were in need and to protect everyone. I have been a life-long resident of the North Hills, growing up in West View and attending North Hills High School before graduating from the University of Pittsburgh.

I began this journey as a patrolman and worked up to Field Training Officer, Detective, Sergeant, Sergeant-in- Charge of Detectives, and then Operations Lieutenant before this current promotion. I have witnessed first-hand the growth of our department and the professional services that we deliver to our residents, businesses and guests. oss Township

ROSS TOWNSHIP NEWS
Joseph Ley, Chief of Police
50 Ross Township
While policing as a whole has basically remained the same, the perceptions, attitudes and beliefs of the public have fluctuated most recently. Throughout this process, I am most proud of all of my officers and how they conduct themselves in a professional manner on a daily basis. They make many sacrifices in this job and their spouses, families and friends also must sacrifice as they are not always around for the“ special events” that friends and families enjoy.
Your police department is comprised of forty-three extremely hard-working, dedicated individuals who are here to protect and serve you. I encourage you to get to know your officers and learn what we do on a daily basis. There are many special events that we participate in, among those which are: periodic Crime Watch Meetings, Ross Township Community Days, the Ross Township Fishing Tournament and our annual Bike Rodeo. Come out and visit us during these events and get to know the officers who are here for you and what all we can provide for you.
Moving forward, my goals are to continue to provide our officers with the best available equipment and training. These two go hand-in-hand in giving back to the community with the best services possible.
I am writing this at a time when the nation and the law enforcement community is going through some troubled times, with the loss of 5 brother officers in Dallas, and 3 in Baton Rouge. Despite this, your officers come to work each and every day ready to uphold the oaths they took when they first came to this great department. We continue to serve, we strive to protect, and we do it with pride. I would also like to take this opportunity for the gracious outpouring of support we have received through our community during this time. Believe me when I say this: It means a great deal to all of us!
Thank you for your support.
