other honors. Class members have been active in the district’s
Backpack Initiative, Buddy Program, countless charitable drives
and the North Hills High School Dance marathon that raised
more than $14,000 for the Four Diamonds Fund and the local
Make‑A‑Wish chapter.
Class members earned approximately $3.6 million in
scholarship awards, the highest earnings of a senior class in the
past decade. Student speakers for the ceremony were Andrew
Cook, Daniel Porter, Brendan Seibert and Jacob Seiler.
NHSD Board of Education President Edward Wielgus
congratulated the graduates and their families before giving them
a final piece of advice.
“Don’t ever stop believing in yourself or worry about failure.
Worry about the chances you missed when you don’t even
try. Live life to the fullest, don’t give up on your dreams, and
remember, no matter where your travels take you, you’ll always be
an Indian.”
More than 90 percent of the Class of 2016 will be continuing
their education by pursuing a two or four-year degree at a college,
technical school or university, and nine graduates will enter the
U.S. military.

Henry David Thoreau once said “ ‘Go confidently in
the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.’
Dreaming is the easy part. Acting on the dream is harder.
Recognize that a dream is a journey. On the simplest level, it takes
commitment, time, desire and courage. But rarely is something
great easily realized. Dreaming is recognizing and embracing the
potential for greatness and seeking it in all areas of your life – all
of which you have demonstrated throughout your career in the
North Hills School District. You have embraced the potential
for greatness through your unwavering pursuit of excellence
in academics and extra-curricular activities,” said Beth Williams,
North Hills High School principal.
The graduating class included a National Merit Scholarship
finalist, AP Scholars, a Nordenberg Leadership Scholars Program
selection, National Future Business Leaders of America award
winners, Pitt’s Cancer Institute Academy participants, Gene
Kelly Award nominees, PMEA Honors and nationally recognized
Program of Distinction music students, Eagle Scouts, WPIAL
