Fresh Produce From Gardens Accepted at NHCO’s Pantries North Hills Community Outreach has always welcomed fresh produce donations for clients. To make it easier for local gardeners to donate produce, NHCO has joined AmpleHarvest.org, a nationwide program working to end fresh food waste and hunger. AmpleHarvest.org enables local backyard/ community gardeners to easily locate neighborhood food pantries to share their excess garden bounty with neighbors in need. Millions of backyard gardeners across the United States frequently find that their vegetable, fruit, herb and nut gardens provide far more produce than they can possibly use or share with friends. The remainder is often left to waste. AmpleHarvest.org enables food pantries to register their name, phone, address, an optional photograph of the pantry to make it easier to find, and day[s] and time[s] they can accept the gardeners’ produce. Please visit AmpleHarvest.org for more information and to locate NHCO’s three pantries. Food Donations Needed at NHCO North Hills Community Outreach’s three food pantries serve 1,400 local families each year. Often the pantries do not get enough donations to keep the shelves stocked, but the same number of people are served. Financial donations are also crucially needed. Please consider holding a food drive or donating nonperishable, unexpired, unopened food or paper products. Recycled plastic and paper grocery bags are also needed. Donations may be dropped off at any NHCO office, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., including the main office at 1975 Ferguson Road, Allison Park, 15101, and NHCO North Boroughs, AGH-Suburban Campus, 100 S. Jackson Avenue, Bellevue, or alternate arrangements can be made.
