BOROUGH OF PLUM NEWS
The winter season is quickly approaching, and with it come a specific set of challenges— cold temperatures, snow, ice, hills, bridges, and frequent changes in road conditions.
Plum Borough gets snow, sleet, freezing rain, and ice, especially overnight or when temperatures fluctuate. Roads can go from wet to icy quickly. Bridges, overpasses, shady areas, and ramps are especially prone to freeze first( or stay icy longer).
The Plum Borough Public Works Department is responsible for winter maintenance for approximately 225 lane miles of roadway. The Borough’ s mission throughout the winter is to maintain safe and passable roads. The goal is to maintain the safest roads possible, in the most economical way.

Neighborhood streets / secondary streets are made passable( especially on hills, curves, and stop signs) within 18 hours after priority streets are done. All snow removal trucks are equipped with GPS units so the Borough can access information on when specific streets were treated. Parked cars on the street interfere with plowing. All basketball hoop structures that are close to the cartway, must be removed, to prevent damage to snow removal equipment and also damage to the basketball hoop structure. Steps should be taken to ensure visibility and stability of mailboxes to avoid damage from snow removal equipment.
