Students Named National Merit Scholars Four Pine-Richland High School students are being named semifinalists in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship program. They include seniors Daniel Krill, Aidan Meyer, Gina Sabol and Justin Waltrip. These seniors were among 16,000 students, who were named semifinalists in the 65th Annual National Merit Scholarship Program. About 90 percent of the semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing and about half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship. These semifinalists are being recognized for their outstanding work on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). The College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation cosponsor this standardized test, which is often administered during a student’s sophomore year and sometimes during a student’s freshman or junior year. Seniors Jack Carnovale, Max Farino, Kang-Young Kim, Valerie Koester, Nathan Lukez, Olivia McGeary and Aidan Pavlick were named commended students. 2019 Graduates Named National AP Scholars 2019 Pine-Richland High School graduates Amalendu Bokil, Tom Fest, Luke Francis, Devin Golla, Jordan Labuda, Martha Lacek, Bailey Mohri, Umayal Natesan, Abigail Waryankas, Lucas Zak and Kevin Zou and PRHS seniors Daniel Krill and Justin Waltrip were added to the 2019 National Advanced Placement Scholar roster. These students earned an average score of at least four on all AP Exams taken and scores of four or higher on eight or more of AP exams. 2018 PRHS graduates also earned national status and include Alyssa Bigley, Benjamin Cohen, Cole Exline, Mark Farino, Amaan Kazi, Seth Kornbau, Allison Lehmann, Benjamin Martin, Molly McCarthy, Mahak Sethi, Alexander Steger and Tyler Viljaste. 2019 PRHS Graduate Umayal Natesan was also recognized in 2018. In 2019, 174 Pine-Richland students are being recognized for being added to the AP Scholar Roster with a designation of National AP Scholar, AP Scholar with Distinction, AP Scholar with Honor and AP Scholar. PRSD Team Selected to Present at PASA-PSBA Conference A Pine-Richland School District team will be presenting at the PA Association of School Administrators-PA School Boards Association (PASA-PSBA) Leadership Conference in Hershey, PA from October 16-17, 2019. The team includes Superintendent Brian Miller, Board President Peter Lyons, Board Vice President Christine Misback, School Director Dr. Carla Meyer, and Board Secretary Barb Williams. The topic of the team’s presentation is the “Pursuit of Excellence: Leadership & Governance.” The professional development session is open to school leaders across Pennsylvania.
