Mr. Marquis with the PTA Officers who nominated him for the leadership award. PTA RECOGNIZES PLEASANT VALLEY PRINCIPAL WITH STATE AWARD O n September 4th, the Pleasant Valley PTA sponsored a Welcome Back luncheon for the staff prior to the start of the school day. The cafeteria was filled with delicious treats for everyone, but what the staff didn’t know was that they were in for a surprise. Earlier this year, the building’s PTA leadership had secretly nominated Pleasant Valley Principal Greg Marquis for the 2019 Dr. Walt Kealey Leadership Award. The award is given annually to one principal in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania who supports parent involvement, interacts openly with the community and creates a quality learning environment for all children. As guests entered the breakfast event, PTA President Diane Damon welcomed everyone and shared the good news that Mr. Marquis had been selected for the state award. The news was quickly followed by a team of excited parents who showered Marquis with confetti to mark the occasion! In her nomination, PTA President Diana Damon notes that not only is Mr. Marquis a good listener to all points of view, but his pride in his school and the entire Peters Township community is obvious to those who work with him at Pleasant Valley. “He has a drive for academic excellence so that every child is set up for success,” said Damon in her nomination. “His love of our school and his positive attitude make the environment at Pleasant Valley a nurturing place to be.” Marquis will be recognized at the 110th Annual Convention of the Pennsylvania PTA in October in State College. Marquis is showered with confetti as he hears the news of his award. PETERS TOWNSHIP ❘ O CT O B E R / N OV EM B ER 2019 61
