At 48 years old, Captain Gerald J. Maloni is a 24-year veteran of the Peters Township Police
Department.
Maloni is a graduate of Canon McMillan High School, Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s
Criminal Justice Training Center and the FBI National Academy. He was hired by Peters Township
in 1992 as a Patrolman and worked patrol for 15 years. “I settled in Peters Township because of
the strong sense of community,” says Maloni. “It is a great place to raise children.” He and his wife,
Melissa, have lived in Peters Township for most of his career and have three children: Logan (18),
Gabe (15) and Ava (9).
In 2007, Maloni was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. In July of this year, he was promoted
again to his current rank of Captain, as a result of Deputy Chief Michael D. Yankchak’s retirement
after 34 years of service.
Currently, Maloni is Captain of Operations and oversees all four of the patrol squads, as well as
the School Resource Officer Program and the Detectives/Investigations Unit.
Maloni’s favorite thing about Peters Township is undoubtedly the people that make up the
community. “I have developed and maintained great personal and professional relationships with
some amazing people,” he says.
With his strong commitment to Peters Township and his experience as a 24 year veteran of the
force, Maloni’s future plans include working closely with Chief Grimes to determine what changes
need to be implemented that will enhance the Peters Township Police Department’s ability to
professionally assist the public.
