STUDENT HIGHLIGHTS
NATIONAL HISTORY DAY STATE HONORS
Four students from Peters Township earned first place titles in the state level of the National History Day Competition. The students below were among 22 Peters Township students who took part in the event and they will now move on to the national competition in June. History Day is an opportunity for students to present historical papers, exhibits, performances, documentaries, and original website designs pertaining to an annual theme. Entries this year focused on the theme of“ Rights and Responsibilities in History.” Sofia Hardoby, Olivia Kaufer and Ashley Stebelsky, Grade 8 Junior Group Exhibit, Entry Title: The Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment Zac Meyers, Grade 11 Senior Individual Exhibit, Entry Title: Oh Captive, My Captain: Robert Smalls from Slave to Sailor to Statesman
WACTC STUDENT OF THE MONTH
High School senior Angelea Balliard has been named the March student of the month at Western Area Career & Technology Center. A top performer in the Culinary Arts program, Angie has been accepted to IUP for Culinary Arts in the fall. During her time at WACTC, Angie has earned OSHA, ServSafe Allergens and ServSafe Food Handler certifications and passed the State certification testing for ServSafe Manager.
ALL-STATE MUSIC HONORS
The Pennsylvania Music Educators’ Association( PMEA) sponsors several honors ensembles each year throughout the state with three levels of ensembles for Band, Orchestra, and Choir( District, Region, and All-State.) Peters Township is proud to have a student representing our District in all three ensembles at the All-State level this year. These talented students were selected by audition and participated in the conference and performance alongside students from across the state. Please join us in congratulating:

• Edward Kim: Oboe, PMEA All State Wind Ensemble
APPLE AWARD FOR MS. DELON
Pleasant Valley teacher Hannah Delon was recognized as the recipient of an Apple Award from the National State Teacher of the Year- PA Chapter. Ms. Delon is being recognized for her exceptional efforts in teaching that support education excellence in our schools. The award is designed to honor teachers who make a positive difference in the lives of students and our school community!
FIRST GRADE MUSICAL AT BOWER HILL
First grade students performed their first school musical at Bower Hill in the Bear Went Over the Mountain. The students shared their musical talents as they encouraged their new friend, the Bear, to get all the way to the top of the mountain. They also learned that sometimes the journey is even better than the destination!

AP DAY AT THE CAPITOL
PTHS students Savannah Griffin, Sarah Hazo, Connor Seaman, Kritin Sharma, and Joshua Zheng, along with Principal Dr. Lori Pavlik, participated in AP Day at the Capitol in Harrisburg. PT was one of just eight schools invited to share their experiences with the College Board’ s Advanced Placement( AP) program. During the event, students had the opportunity to hear from House Education Chair Pete Schweyer and Representative Steve Malagari. They also met with Senators Camera Bartolotta and Joe Picozzi to discuss their AP experiences and highlight the successes of the program across Pennsylvania.
PTHS MEDIA AWARDS
The PTHS Media Department came home with 12 awards following the Digital Media Arts Consortium hosted by Robert Morris University. Awards were received for: Sports Article, Special Effects, Sports Photojournalism, Hard News Article, Opinion or Editorial Article, Commercial, Instructional Video, Black & White Photography, Public Service Announcement and the 48-Hour Film Challenge Team( Editing and Audience Choice). In addition, senior Skyler Guadio received the prestigious Founders Award at the event.
MINDSET LESSON AT PLEASANT VALLEY
It was a great assembly at Pleasant Valley learning about NED’ s Mindset Mission! Our students met NED as he followed clues and learned some valuable lessons- to never give up, encourage others and do our best. They learned about the“ Power of Yet”- if you are not good at something, it may just means you are not good at it YET!
