2017 Great American Cleanup /
Special Recycling Event A Great Success!
Thank you to all of the volunteers and community organizations that
participated in the Great American Cleanup Day. Approximately
100 volunteers cleaned trash and debris from 13.5 miles of roadway within
Peters Township, filling up a 30-yard dumpster.
At the Special Recycling Event held at the Public Works Garage, residents
dropped off around 300 unwanted/damaged bicycles. Volunteers,
led by Township resident Bill Shader, repaired and donated the bicycles to
several local charities. Residents recycled a variety of other items including
160 tires, 2000 pounds of scrap metal, and 21 vehicle batteries.
Residents also dropped off a large number of electronic devices; a total
of 40 pallets were filled with televisions, computers, and electronics. These
items are not accepted curbside by Waste Management due to state law
(Covered Electronic Device Recycling Act). Residents can drop off
electronics, free of charge, at the Public Works Building on Mondays,
Wednesdays, or Fridays from Noon to 3 p.m. Peters Township contracts with
a company that collects electronics from the Public Works Department on
a regular basis, and properly recycles these items. In 2016 alone, residents
recycled 207,341 pounds of electronics, which equates to 103.7 tons.
