STUDENT HIGHLIGHTS
REMOTE STUDENTS TECHNOLOGY PROJECT
Third grade students in Mrs . William ’ s class wrapped up the novel on George Washington and used the Chatter Pix app to have George tell their classmates some facts that they learned . Kudos to our elementary students for combining their knowledge of history with great technology skills .
6TH GRADERS HAVE A DREAM
In a lead up to the 6th grade novel , The Watson ’ s Go to Birmingham , Mrs . Weber ’ s and Mrs . Engstrom ’ s 6th grade ELA classes studied many important events from the Civil Rights Movement . As a culminating activity following the study of Martin Luther King Jr .’ s I Have a Dream speech , the students created peace projects and discussed ways to make the world a more peaceful place .
HIGH SCHOOL ENGLISH STUDENTS ZOOM WITH HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS
In December , Honors 10 English students heard presentations from two Holocaust survivors : Suzanne Weiss and Edith Bell . This event is the culmination of weeks of collaboration between the 10th grade team and the educators at JFilms Society in Pittsburgh . Students have been watching a short Holocaust film series and discussing topics such as human rights and survivor ’ s guilt from multiple perspectives and debating the roles of collaborators , bystanders , and upstanders during the war years .
RED RIBBON WINNERS AT MCMURRAY
Red Ribbon Week Contest Winners from McMurray Elementary were recognized for their posters and essays about making good decisions and saying no to drugs . To say thank you , our McMurray Counselors gave the students new patriotic masks that were made and donated by local PT veterans for our students just in time for Veterans Day .
BOWER HILL & PLEASANT VALLEY SUPPORT LOCAL ASSISTED LIVING CENTERS
This fall , students at Bower Hill and Pleasant Valley created Thanksgiving themed drawings for the residents at Gateway Hospice , Hawthorne Woods Assisted Living , McMurray Hills Nursing Home , and Sunrise Senior Living . Pleasant Valley also collected candy that was donated to the seniors as treats at the centers .
PT CHARACTER COUNTS AWARDS
This fall , Peters Township Character Counts held a virtual awards ceremony to honor members of our community who were being recognized for their commitment to the ideas of honesty , respect and responsibility .
