attracts 480,000 visitors per year, 80 percent of whom come from beyond Cuyahoga County.“ Those are our aspirations for Pittsburgh. It’ s a big dream, but based on our research, we think it’ s very doable,” says Sherwin.“ Pittsburgh has a lot of great attractions, but nothing that fills the niche of a broadly popular adult attraction targeting the 10 million annual overnight visitors to our region.”
Inside plans for Brew: The Museum of Beer include 20,000 sq. ft. of exhibits, a bar and restaurant, a brewery, an event space and a museum store. As they create this new attraction for Pittsburgh, the co-founders intend to draw on the expertise of the professionals who designed cutting-edge attractions like The Guinness Storehouse in Dublin, Ireland, and the Jim Beam and Coca-Cola experiences here in the United States.
Though no official site has been finalized, Sherwin stresses the importance of location— making sure the museum is easily accessible to hometowners as well as anyone visiting Pittsburgh.“ Ideally, we want to be within two miles of the city center, making the museum easily accessible to out-of-towners and close to places like the Convention Center and downtown hotels,” says Sherwin.“ We’ re looking in areas like the Strip District, the North Shore, Station Square and other areas near downtown.”
He adds,“ People seem pretty excited about the museum and have expressed interest in getting involved. We’ ve had several locations contact us to say they have properties available.
