Character Counts Week at Pleasant Valley is a week
dedicated to supporting positive choices in the lives of
students. This year, the students turned the tables and
recognized positive behavior in our community.
Students and teachers invited representatives from
the Peters Township Fire and Police Departments along
with our Emergency Medical Services crew to attend a
special ceremony on October 26 at the school.
The students greeted their guests wearing red, white
and blue and sang “My Country Tis of Thee” as they said
thank you for the dedication and commitment these
first responders show to our community.
“We talk about our community helpers so much in
school, but we never take the opportunity to thank
them for their service,” said teacher Lynn Bruner who
helped organize the event. “I just really wanted our
children to recognize how much they do for the
community each day.”
Across the Township, students at Bower Hill were also
busy working on gifts for these community helpers with
the assistance of the PTA’s new Gratitude Committee.
Donations were accepted at the building’s Halloween
party and students were invited to sign a card for our
first responders and building support staff who work
hard every day for our students.
As a part of the weekly Hero recognition program at
the school, students were recognized for going above
and beyond in their classroom this month. They then
had a chance to pay it forward and show their gratitude
to our first responders and support staff who were also
invited to attend.
“We wanted our PT community helpers to know that
we support them and care about them,” added Burner.
As a token of their appreciation, students in both
schools presented their special guests with boxes full of
cards and treats to share with their co-workers.
