SPONSORED CONTENT YOUR HEALTH SPONSORED CONTENT The Benefits of Utilizing a Comprehensive Family Medicine Practice -Bridget Peterson, MD W hen you are ill or injured, it can be stressful to find the medical care you need. However, there is a simple solution. At Washington Health System, our family physicians provide medical care for all types of issues, whether acute or chronic. Doctors trained in the specialty of Family Medicine evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients from newborns to the elderly. In addition to caring for patients of all ages, family medicine focuses on the overall wellness of our patients and communities. We use preventative medicine to keep our patients as healthy as possible, regardless of any medical problems they may have. Family medicine providers can serve a multitude of healthcare needs for infants, children, and adults. Most family doctors see their patients in the office, but our group also takes care of our patients if they are admitted to The Washington Hospital. We also provide routine gynecological care, including breast cancer screening, cervical cancer Family Medicine Physician screening (Pap smears), and family planning. Several of our partners provide prenatal care and deliver babies, as well. Because the scope of family medicine is so broad, many family doctors choose to provide additional services in their areas of interest. These may include sports medicine, hospice, palliative care, nursing home care, emergency medicine, addiction and recovery services, or even international relief work. Family medicine providers care for their patients and their families as their lives and healthcare needs change over time. This continuity of care creates a strong doctor-patient relationship, which can translate into better communication built on a foundation of trust. Every patient is different, so having a physician who already knows you and your family can lead to faster and more accurate diagnosis and treatment. Also, having all of your care in one place allows your family doctor to make sure that you are receiving comprehensive preventative care, such as vaccines and cancer screenings. This can also prevent the same tests being ordered by multiple different doctors, which can be expensive. Family medicine can also benefit the community. Like other primary care providers, family medicine aims to provide high-quality, accessible, and affordable health care for all communities. Because of the broad spectrum of family medicine, family doctors can accommodate the needs of our patients and their communities as they grow and change. - Bridget Peterson, MD Washington Health System Family Medicine - Cecil Three Convenient Locations: Canonsburg Washington Cecil 67 East Pike Street Canonsburg, PA 15317 P.
