Tuesday, Sept. 20, 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Presented by: Jayeann Harr, Education Access
Partner with PHEAA
Significant changes are coming to the Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) this
year. To help students and parents understand
how the changes will affect filing for federal
financial aid and possibly how much aid they
will receive, the Peters Township Public Library
will partner with the Pennsylvania Higher
Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) to offer
this informative program.
With the new process, families will be able
to begin completing the FAFSA on Oct. 1, rather
than Jan. 1. Registration is necessary for this free
program by emailing [email protected] or
call 724.941.9430.

An Evening With Lincoln
Thursday, Sept. 8, 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Presented by: Richard Miller
Please join us as we welcome Abraham Lincoln, our 16th President, as he
shares stories and anecdotes from his presidency and his earlier years. Abraham
Lincoln invites you to bring your questions as he likes to interact with his audience.
Richard Miller shares his impression of Abraham Lincoln as a survivor of his
Assassination in order to have a conversation with Lincoln – similar to Mel Brooks
and the “2000 Year-Old Man”.
Richard Miller is a member of the Association of Lincoln presenters and portrays
Lincoln several times a year at parades, fairs, and other events. Miller is an avid
reader of books on Abraham Lincoln and finds Lincoln to possess an outstanding
sense of humor. “Humor is the lubricant of the soul” is one of Rick Miller’s favorite
Abraham Lincoln quotations.
Abrah am Lincoln: the Careworn, Gentle Face of Wartime Violence
Thursday, Sept. 22, 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Presented by: Dr. Elaine Frantz Parsons
Political cartoons, like other popular media, often focused on the person of
Abraham Lincoln as a way to think about
the inconceivable violence of the Civil
War. As a plain “man of the people”, his
was the common sense of the common
man. This made the fact that he controlled
a capacity for violence unknown to the
nation seemingly less troubling. This talk will
discuss how the figure of Lincoln mediated
discussions of violence during the war.
Dr. Elaine Frantz Parsons is an associate
professor of history at Duquesne University.
Her most recent book, Ku-Klux: The Birth
of the Klan in the Reconstruction Era, was
published in Jan. 2016. She is currently
working on a labor history of hired violence
workers.
