New Township Manager Peters Township has only known two municipal managers over the past 53 years. This will change on Aug. 26 as Michael Silvestri retires and Paul Lauer takes his place as the new Township Manager. Lauer is a familiar face to many Township residents as he has served as the Township’s Assistant Manager since 1984. This experience makes him uniquely qualified to lead the Township through a period of unprecedented transition. The Township has been blessed to be guided by a group of long-serving, dedicated professionals as key department heads. As a result of retirements, there is new leadership in the Public Works, Police and Library Departments. “The key challenge facing the Township is to establish a new management team while continuing to deliver the high level of service residents expect and deserve,” says Lauer. As the Assistant Township Manager, Lauer functioned, in part, as the Township’s Finance Director. That being said, his responsibilities have been varied. He has served as the Township representative for numerous construction projects including the Library and Community Recreation Center. Lauer, along with Silvestri, has negotiated every labor contract for over 30 years. “What makes this job fascinating is the sheer variety of projects one is asked to do,” says Lauer. “Michael will be a tough act to follow,” says Lauer regarding Silvestri’s retirement. “His dedication, character and knowledge is something I hope to emulate.” P E TE RS TOWN SHI P N E WS Paul Lauer Peters Township Introducing New Management for PT Ryan Jeroski New Assistant Township Manager Peters Township | August/September 2016 | icmags.com 13 www.peterstownship.com 724.941.4180 This August, Peters Township welcomes Ryan Jeroski as the new Assistant Township Manager. Jeroski is originally from Oakmont and attended Riverview High School. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Westminster College and a master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh in Public Administration. Jeroski came to Peters Township after serving as the Assistant Township Manager for the Borough of Oakmont for three and a half years. He heard about the opening in Peters Township through the Local Government Academy. “I was really attracted to the position because Peters is such a well-managed township with an extremely professional staff and the reputation of maintaining a high quality of life for its residents,” says Jeroski. “I honestly could not have left my hometown for anything but the right opportunity, and I feel Peters Township fits that perfectly.” In becoming familiar with the area, Jeroski has already found many favorite things to do in Peters Township. As an avid bicyclist, he especially enjoys the Montour and Arrowhead Trails. He also finds the Township’s park system to be very impressive. “Peters Lake Park is a real gem,” he says. “It’s the type of natural park that so few communities in Pittsburgh are able to enjoy.” Currently, Jeroski is assisting Paul Lauer in completing the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and preparing for the 2017 Budget process. In his new role, he will be overseeing a lot of Peters Township’s finances in conjunction with Lauer, the new Township Manager. Additionally, Jeroski is currently working on the contract administration for the new amphitheater scheduled to be built in Peterswood Park. Jeroski’s future plans include working with the Township Manager and various department heads to ensure that the township continues to operate at peak efficiency. “I’d like to thank Michael Silvestri, Paul Lauer and the Peters Township Council for the extraordinary opportunity they have given me,” says Jeroski. “Also, I’d be remiss if I did not thank my colleagues in Oakmont who were great to work with, and most importantly my parents, who helped me move from an apartment in Oakmont to another in Bethel Park in just one day.”
